Economics and Commerce Career Mentoring Program
The Career Mentoring program matches students with high-profile industry mentors.
In 2009 the program will be open to both undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce. Participating students are linked with mentors based on their shared interests and area of speciality.
The objective of career mentoring is to support students’ transition out of university into the workforce and to involve members of industry in a mutually beneficial partnership.
Successful mentor-mentee relationships enable students to gain insights into specific industries and begin to develop personal and professional networks.
Testimonials
"[My mentor] was very helpful and I owe him a lot for assisting me. He gave me relevant and insightful guidance in terms of the industry I was entering, the type of work I'd be doing. He did practice interviews with me and gave me heaps of confidence to go for this job. He always responded to my emails regarding certain things and he even helped go through my paperwork." MAC (Marketing) student 2006
"[My mentor] has given me a lot of advice on how to start a career in the financial service industry...making appointments to have a chat with two of his friends who both held senior positions in financial services companies. It was a really nice opportunity to start building my network, and good practice to build up my confidence when speaking to senior people in the industry. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to participate in the career mentor program." Masters in Commerce (Finance) student 2006
My mentor meetings have been going well...we have agreed to keep in touch while I'm away and I plan to continue our mentor relationship over the next few years." MAC student 2006
