Applying for Honours

Eligibility Criteria

Full details of eligibility criteria for both students enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce degree and students enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce double degree can be found in the University Handbook.

The number of applicants selected from the group of eligible applicants is dependent upon the number of places available. Selection into the honours program is at the discretion of the relevant Head of Department. The Departments of Finance and Management apply a quota to the number of places available to students enrolling in the honours program.

Application Procedures

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) is offered for full-time, Semester 1 entry only. Intending applicants should note that students must commence the honours year within two years of completing the requirements of the ordinary degree.

Students who have reached the required standard must make a formal application to the honours coordinator for admission to fourth-year honours. Applicants must apply online and submit their printed application, along with supporting documentation, to the Commerce Student Centre, Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Ground Floor, Babel Building.

The closing date for applications for the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) for 2009 is Friday 21 November 2008. Those who seek entry to fourth-year honours must ascertain from the honours convenor of the relevant department whether any additional work or special subjects will be required at third year level.

Students planning to change areas of study should consult the honours convenor of the appropriate department for advice on any required additional work.

Applicants from other institutions

Students who have completed their degree at a tertiary institution other than the University of Melbourne must lodge with their application an original or certified copy of their academic record, together with the official university handbook or calendar entries for all third-year subjects attempted. Applications may be submitted prior to the release of final results however they will not be processed until all the required information is received.

International applicants

International students must submit an International Undergraduate Application, available online or from the International Centre, John Smyth Building.
