Faculty of Economics and Commerce

Prizes and Studentships

The Faculty of Economics and Commerce has a number of prizes and studentships which are awarded to the highest achieving students in the Faculty. These are funded through the generosity of government and industry sponsors; individuals; through bequests and donations; and by the Faculty and Departments.

Dean's Honours List

Undergraduate Students

The Dean's Honours List is an annual award made to the highest achieving Bachelor of Commerce students in recognition of their academic excellence. The list comprises the top 3% performing students in the Faculty.

Students included on the list will receive a certificate from the Dean of the Faculty at the annual Dean’s Awards Ceremony. The award will also be noted on the student’s transcript.

Graduate Students

The Graduate Dean’s Honours List is compiled each semester, recognising the academic excellence of students of the Melbourne Graduate School of Management. The list comprises the top 3% of students graduating from each coursework program.

Students included on the list will receive a certificate from the Dean of the Faculty at the Graduation Dinner, and the award will be noted on the student’s transcript.

Subject Prizes

Subject prizes are awarded to the student who achieves the highest result in a sponsored subject, or group of subjects, and are available at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Winners are automatically selected on the basis of their academic results, following the final release of results each year.

To be eligible, students must be enroled in the Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) or a coursework program at the Melbourne Graduate School of Management. Honours and graduate students are not eligible to win prizes for first, second or third level subjects.

Studentships

Kinsman Studentship and Prize

A studentship of $1500 is available to students completing the Bachelor of Commerce Honours program. This scholarship is to provide encouragement for Honours students to develop their research essay so that it can be published as a paper in a refereed journal. Students must be working jointly with a supervisor or advisor.

Selection is based on the quality of the research essay, and the potential for the essay to result in a publishable paper. Further details, including application forms and guidelines, can be found here.

In addition to the studentship, the four best research papers supported under the Scheme annually will receive a prize known as the Kinsman Honours Research Essay Prize. One prize will be awarded from each of the Departments (Accounting and Business Information Systems, Economics, Finance and Management and Marketing). The value of the prize is $500.
