Department of Primary Industries Honours Scholarship
The Department of Primary Industries is pleased to sponsor an annual scholarship for Bachelor of Commerce Honours students. The scholarship is valued at $3,000 and is open to Bachelor of Commerce students intending to undertake Honours in 2009 and who are majoring in Economics. The tenure of the scholarship is for one year.
Selection is based on academic merit and interview performance. An interest in public policy will also be considered. Eligibility criteria and application details can be found in the following flyer.

Commerce Alumni Final Year Scholarship - Undergraduate

Citigroup Women in Investment Banking Scholarship
To encourage women to pursue a career in investment banking, Citigroup is pleased to sponsor an annual scholarship for a female Bachelor of Commerce student to the value of $8,000.
Open to final year female students studying a Bachelor of Commerce, including combined degrees and the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours). The tenure of the scholarship is one year. Selection is based on academic merit and interview performance.

Lorna Stirling Fund
Travelling Scholarship available to students currently enrolled at The University of Melbourne
Ms Lorna Stirling was a Music Director in the Melbourne University Drama Club in the 1940s. On her death in 1956 she bequeathed funds to the University for the purpose of promoting international student relationships through the creation of scholarships for the exchange of students between The University of Melbourne and other universities.
The fund provides one off payments of between $500 and $4000. In order to be considered for a scholarship you must:
- be enrolled at the University of Melbourne at the time of application and for the period of the proposed exchange or project;
- have a signed letter of support from a relevant student organization, such as the Student Union or a Faculty based student society;
- demonstrate how your project is relevant to the interests of the student population at large; and/or
- demonstrate how your project will enable mutual understanding to be established between students at the University of Melbourne and at the international university(s).

Robin D. Hocking Scholarship
The University and Ormond College offer annually a memorial scholarship, valued at $10,000. Applicants must be intending to undertake a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) or Bachelor of Arts (Hons), or be in their final year specialising in Economics in 2008. The tenure of the scholarship is for one year during which time the successful candidate must be a resident member of Ormond College. (Candidates need not be a resident at the time of application.)

C.S. Soper Scholarship in Economics
The C.S. Soper Scholarship is valued at $5000 and open to students intending to undertake the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in 2008, specialising in economics. The tenure of the scholarship is for one year. Applicants should be intending to specialise in economics for their Honours year and in their pass degree, have specialised in economic theory or mathematical economics.

Wilfred Prest Travelling Fellowship
The Wilfred Prest Travelling Fellowship is open to students or graduates of The University of Melbourne who will be undertaking postgraduate studies in the field of Economics at an overseas university or research institution.
Applicants must either be completing a degree specialising in Economics at the University (Bachelor, Honours, Master or PhD) or be an Economics graduate of the University.

Deutsche Bank Final Year Scholarships
Deutsche Bank offers up to two scholarships to Bachelor of Commerce and combined penultimate year students each year for awarding the following year. The value of these scholarships is $8000 each. Students who are studying or intend to undertake honours are also invited to apply providing their final year of study is the following year. Applicants may be studying any discipline within the Bachelor of Commerce.
Selection criteria is on the basis of academic merit, extra-curricular activities, interpersonal and leadership skills and qualities which offer evidence that applicants may make an important contribution to the financial services industry upon graduation.

Goldman Sachs JBWere Final Year Scholarship
The Goldman Sachs JBWere Scholarship is be open to Bachelor of Commerce and combined students for applications from penultimate year students for awarding the following year. The award is valued at $4000. Students who are studying or intend to undedertake honours are also invited to apply providing their final year of study is the following year. Applicants must have studied either Finance, Accounting, Economics or Actuarial studies within the Bachelor of Commerce.
Selection criteria is outstanding academic achievement, demonstrated leadership potential, excellent interpersonal skills and interview performance. These skills and abilities may be demonstrated during University studies or through excellence in a range extra-curricular activities.

Shell Personal Development Award
The Shell Personal Development Award (PDA) is a monetary grant given to students who are undertaking activities that will aid their personal development. The awards are open to undergraduate students in either their first or second year. They must have Australian citizenship or Permanent Residency and be studying one of the following disciplines:
- Engineering
- Business/Commerce
- Accounting
- Finance
Successful applicants will receive $1000 dollars.
Students need to submit their resume, fill in the online questionnaire and provide a description of the activity for which they are claiming the PDA. Applicants will be shortlisted for a telephone interview.
Applicants will be judged on the strength of their resume and the activity they wish to undertake. If they progress to the next stage they will be then assessed on their performance in the interview. The competencies Shell is looking for are 'Capacity', 'Achievement' and 'Relationships':
- Capacity: the intellectual, analytical and creative ability to learn quickly, identify issues, make judgments and propose solutions.
- Achievement: a demonstrable history of setting challenging goals. There will be an expectation of enthusiasm, resilience and confidence. Successful applicants will be those who can always get things done.
- Relationships: teamwork, communication skills and respect for others.

Goldman Sachs Leadership Program for second year students
The Goldman Sachs Leadership Program identifies and rewards the academic excellence and leadership potential of 100 of the most accomplished second year students, from all disciplines, worldwide with a US$3,000 scholarship. From these students, 50 are chosen to attend the Global Leadership forum in New York. In both 2005 and 2006 University of Melbourne students were successful. The University is now calling for nominations for 2007.
Eligibility: Students entering the 2nd year of their undergraduate degree in 2007.

Commerce Honours Scholarships
In 2008, the Faculty will fund four Honours Scholarships in each department (ABIS, Actuarial, Economics, Finance, Management and Marketing). To be eligible, students must be commencing a B.Com(Hons) in one of these departments. Each scholarship is worth $5,000. There is no application and students will be considered automatically. The selection criteria is academic merit.
Additional Funding for Exchange Scholarships
The Faculty of Economics and Commerce offers grants, in addition to any Melbourne Global Mobility scholarships, to support undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to go overseas on exchange. If you are approved to undertake an exchange towards your Bachelor of Commerce degree (or Melbourne Graduate School of Management program) and enrol in at least 12.5 points of Commerce exchange credit, you may be eligible to receive this additional funding.
All grants and scholarships are in addition to any funds that may be awarded through the Melbourne Global Mobility Program, but will not be paid to those students who receive funding from the UMAP and Cheung Kong programs.
Students on exchange in Semester Two 2008 will receive $250 for every 12.5 points of approved Commerce subjects studied at the host institution.
- 12.5 points Commerce = $250
- 25 points Commerce = $500
- 37.5 points Commerce = $750
- 50 points Commerce = $1,000
*Students undertaking an exchange of two semesters duration, with an equivalent Commerce enrolment greater than 50 points, may be entitled to a grant of more than $1,000.
Exchange grants for Semester 1, 2009 will be announced in November 2008.
